Privacy policy
This policy explains what information Econograms collects, why it is used and the choices available to students, teachers and visitors.

Who this policy covers
This policy applies when you visit Econograms, create an account or use its diagram, revision and assessment-practice tools. Econograms is responsible for deciding how information collected through the service is used. Privacy questions and requests may be sent to info@econograms.com.
Information you provide
If you create an account, we store your email address, account role and profile details you choose to provide. Teachers may optionally provide a school name and class size. If you use Google sign-in, Google supplies basic profile information needed to identify the account, such as your name, email address and profile image.
The service may store diagrams, written answers, practice results, learning progress and other work you choose to save. If you email us, we receive the information contained in your message and any attachments you send.
Classroom work
If you join a classroom, we store your membership and the name you choose for that class. The teacher who owns the class can see that name. Other students cannot see your membership, answers or feedback through the classroom tools.
Saved classroom drafts are private to your account. Submitting shares a fixed copy of your answer and any attached diagram with the class teacher. The teacher can return feedback on that copy. Later draft edits do not change earlier submissions. Unsaved work may also be kept in this tab’s session storage for recovery; use Save draft to keep it across devices.
Share class codes privately and use only the personal information your teacher needs to recognise you. Choosing the teacher account role does not verify school employment. School leaderboard approvals require a separate, administratively verified staff record. Contact us if you need classroom records removed or an incorrect membership corrected.
Practice XP and leaderboards
Student accounts can earn lifetime XP for eligible practice. We store the activity identifier, awarded points and award time, and any approved school affiliation at the time of the award. XP measures participation in practice, not IB grades or proof of independent work. Existing saved progress does not receive retrospective points.
Leaderboard listing is off by default. If you opt in, other signed-in students can see your generated nickname, rank and XP on the global all-time board. Your email, real name, written answers and marks are not shown. Approved members of your school can also see its all-time top ten. School points count only eligible activities completed after approval; they do not reset each year, and alumni can remain listed while opted in.
Only verified school staff can approve students from their own classes for that school. A typed school name does not establish membership. You can switch off listing on the leaderboards page without losing your private XP. Pending XP requests may be kept in account-specific browser storage, including the response or diagram needed to check the activity, until they are processed. Contact us to correct or remove an approved school affiliation.
Information collected when you use the site
Some settings, unfinished work and identifiers are stored in your browser so that Econograms can remember your preferences and keep the service working on that device. Our hosting and security providers may process technical information such as IP address, request time, browser details and security events when delivering the site and protecting it from abuse.
Econograms uses Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, but the Google tag does not load unless you select “Allow analytics”. If allowed, its default web measurement can collect pseudonymous page and interaction data, session statistics, approximate location, traffic source, browser and device information, and a client identifier stored in a first-party cookie named _ga. We do not send Google Analytics the content of saved diagrams or written answers.
Why we use information
We use information to create and secure accounts, sync work across devices, restore saved diagrams, provide feedback and progress, answer support requests, prevent misuse, diagnose faults and understand which parts of Econograms are useful.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, account and saved-work processing is necessary to provide the service you request; security, support and service improvement are based on our legitimate interests; and optional analytics runs only after you consent. We do not sell personal information or use account data for targeted advertising.
When information is shared
Econograms uses Supabase for authentication, database and account storage; Google for optional sign-in and site analytics; and Cloudflare for hosting, security and email services. Those providers process information needed to perform their services and may do so in countries different from your own.
We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect users or the service, or as part of a business transfer. We do not disclose personal information to unrelated third parties for their own direct marketing.
Retention and security
Account information and saved work are generally kept while your account remains active and for a reasonable period afterwards when needed for security, legal obligations, dispute resolution or backups. Support correspondence and technical logs may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes. Browser data remains until it expires or you clear it.
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. Please use a secure sign-in method and do not include sensitive personal or student information in diagrams, answers or support messages.
Your choices and rights
You may use the public diagram library without an account. You can update optional profile details in your account and decline analytics when first asked. The “Cookie choices” control lets you change that decision later. Blocking necessary browser storage may prevent account or saved-work features from working.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to use of your personal information, or receive a portable copy. You may also withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. To make a request, email info@econograms.com. We may need to verify that the request concerns your account.
Students and younger users
Econograms is designed for students and teachers. If local law requires a parent, guardian or school to authorise a student’s use of an online service, that authorisation should be obtained before an account is created. Teachers and schools should not enter confidential student records or other unnecessary personal information into the service.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Econograms develops or its providers and legal obligations change. The revision date above will change when an update is published. Material changes may also be highlighted within the service.
